Prudencio Irazabal

Prudencio Irazabal was born in the Basque Country in Spain. After studying Fine Art at the University of Seville and the University of Barcelona, he completed his studies at Columbia University in New York. He moved to New York in 1986. In this city he developed his creative and professional career as a painter.

Color and light became the main focus in his works after a period of research in the material elements of painting. His process-oriented canvases display a rich surface made of translucent layers and multiple spaces where color irradiates in the absence of a precise focal point. He has exhibited his work in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco since the early 90s. He also shows his work regularly in Germany, Sweden, Italy, France and Spain. His paintings can be found at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Fundación Helga de Alvear in Cáceres, the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Artium Museum in Vitoria, the Akzo Nobel Foundation in Arnhem, the Museum Gegenstandfreier Kunst in Otterndorf, the H+F Collection in Rotterdam and the European Investment Bank in Brussels amongst others.
