Arnaud Gibersztajn A Psychological Journey
218 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan
I am very pleased to present these four series of paintings, which are being shown together for the first time today.
For me, this collection taken as a whole, recounts a psychological journey. Once closed off from new ideas and resistant to inclusion, my stubborn mindset, when nurtured, loved, and challenged, begins to fissure, to crack, to perforate.
The Wall series are bricked up, impermeable squares, barriers I built between myself and the rest of humanity. By the time I reach Red, Black, and White, however, I begin to see another way, the surface is penetrated and life leaks through small openings.
In the next two series, that include dripping paintings Number 1 and Number 2 and the Palette Knife Compositions, I begin to show myself through openings that reveal what lies beneath, and at the same time, I am also able to peer out at the world through the peepholes.
Finally, in the Enamel Compositions, my life force begins to flow freely, unfettered and fearless, on the never-ending journey of an open mind.
